My name is Rasma Kass. And I’m part of something flexible.
What gets me out of bed in the morning is knowing that each day is different.
I work as a line manager here at Nokia Siemens Networks. In a way, my job is all about match-making. I work globally across the whole company, supporting people in different regions and getting them working together in teams.
It’s a busy job, especially when it’s the time of the year for appraisals and performance reviews. But I have a busy home life too. My six-year old son has just started school, so I need time to make the school runs. And there’s also the gardening club I set up and run in the summer.
That’s why getting a good balance between my work and home life is really important to me. So it’s great to work in a company where flexible working is a natural part of the job.
One of the good things about working globally is the flexibility it offers. I work across different time-zones, so it definitely isn’t just a 9-5 job. Sometimes I work from home, sometimes at the office. With mobile email and phone, I can be productive from virtually anywhere at any time.
It’s hard to put a value on flexibility. But I do know that if I can be there to see my son in the school play, or if I can be home to support my family when they need me, it really makes a difference. And I’m sure that everyone else on my team feels the same.
My job is about helping people achieve results. I know that people are at their best when they’re happy both at work and at home. And by achieving a good work/life balance, I know I can bring out the best in me too.
