Fulfilling
I joined Nokia Siemens Networks right after graduating from the Berlin School of Economics. That was in 2007, just when the company was formed. So in a way, the company and my career have grown up together.
When I was studying in Berlin, one of the subjects that most interested me was cultural diversity. That’s also something I find really exciting about my job now. It’s hard to think of a more culturally diverse company than this one.
Nokia Siemens Networks operates in more than 150 countries and we have around 60,000 employees. So although I’m based here in Munich, it feels like I’m linked to many different people and places all around the world.
In my work in Marketing communications, I talk with people throughout the company. In order to inspire and motivate people, you have to know the ideas and attitudes that make them tick. And you need to know how these things change from country to country.
To help us work as a team across many continents and time zones, we use a variety of tools for collaboration. As well as web-based conference tools, we also have state-of-the-art video conferencing facilities in all of our major offices. With these facilities, people on opposite sides of the world can work and interact as if they are sitting across the table from each other.
It’s even possible to have virtual meetings. Nokia Siemens Networks has a virtual meeting space, where we can interact and conference with each other.
When you are as global as we are, you often go for long periods without face-to-face interaction with your team members. That’s why these tools are so important. They keep us connected and help us to reap all the benefits of teamwork and collaboration.
My career has broadened my horizons. I have colleagues not just in Germany, but in many countries like Finland, India, Ireland and the US. And when you work closely with people in so many different countries, your own view of the world changes.
It’s taught me that national borders don’t matter. What’s really important is great team spirit. If you have that, there’s no limit to what you can do.
Are you ready to be part of something fulfilling?
