What I value most about my job is the freedom I have to shape my career path. But before I came to Nokia Siemens Networks, things were very different.
After I graduated, the first job I had was working in the IT department of an electrical company. It was the sort of job where everything was fixed and controlled. We had to come in at a fixed time. We had to leave at a fixed time. Even our roles were fixed. Nothing ever changed, so we never learned anything new.
Here at Nokia Siemens Networks, my job is my own responsibility. Right from the start, I had the trust and the freedom I needed to try new ideas and different approaches. And I‘ve been given amazing support along the way.
When I first joined, I was new to telecom networks. But my colleagues in the planning team gave me all the guidance I needed to grow and develop. Since then my career has taken off.
The great thing about my career development is that I don’t have to go it alone. As part of my performance evaluation, my manager and I discuss my personal development plan. We talk about next steps, growth opportunities, and any training that I need. This kind of support really helps me focus my mind on what I want to achieve next and how I’m going to get there.
I feel like I’ve changed personally as well as professionally since I’ve been here. I’ve definitely become much more self-confident. And that’s helped me build a strong network of contacts.
I’m proud to have been part of some really exciting innovations, like the new digital satellite network we launched for Vodafone Gujarat. It was the first of its kind anywhere in India. Since then, many other operators have followed our lead.
