3G for emerging markets
Any market is now ready for 3G.
The prices of 3G devices are falling sharply. Global demand for broadband and Internet access is booming. Every market is now ready for 3G.
Demand for data is racing ahead
By 2015, five billion people will be connected via communications networks, with well more than half enjoying broadband access. The Internet will be the predominant source of data applications, complementing huge and continuing demand for voice capacity. The majority of new users will come from emerging markets and 3G/HSPA will be the core technologies to bring them voice, broadband and Internet connectivity. Jon Fredrik Baksaas, CEO, Telenor
"80 percent of the world still has no access to fixed line services, 60 percent has no access to financial services and there are only 142 physicians for every 100,000 inhabitants globally - the mobile Internet will play an important part in bringing access and services to the portion of the population that were previously outside the coverage of the legacy information infrastructure." Jon Fredrik Baksaas, CEO, Telenor
Markets are ripe for mobile broadband
Many emerging markets suffer low fixed broadband penetration rates, often less than 10 percent. They also have high urban populations with relatively few fixed Internet connections. Mobile broadband offers the most effective solution with 3G also providing huge amounts of new voice capacity, especially in congested urban areas. The success of 3G in emerging markets is being driven by the rapidly declining price of low-end 3G handheld devices, which is making 3G affordable for all, including low-ARPU users. Meanwhile, low cost 3G dongles are providing Internet and broadband access to the installed base of millions of computers not yet connected.
Grabbing the 3G opportunity
Our 3G solution makes it easy for any communications service provider (CSP) to harvest the key business opportunities opened up by 3G:
- win new revenue - meet the huge demand for Internet access throughout the world
- provide vast amounts of voice capacity at the lowest cost
- launch a platform to support your own value-added services
Learn from those who have done it already
With Nokia Siemens Networks, CSPs planning to roll out a 3G service platform can benefit from the experiences of those who have gone before. We are the market leader in 3G with about 150 customer references and we have a presence in many markets where mobile broadband has been in play for a long time. We firmly believe there is a huge strategic value in partnering with us and leveraging our experience to enhance your 3G rollout and build a sound business plan for the future.
