Nokia Siemens Networks Village Connection

Nokia Siemens Networks Village Connection

This solution enables operators to capture the rural market potential by offering affordable voice and sms service to villages for a relatively low investment.

Affordable connectivity for rural villages

Almost three billion people live in rural areas. In many new growth markets, service providers have to make mobile connectivity affordable for rural people who can spend just $2-3 per month.

Our Village Connection solution provides a cost-efficient addition to existing GSM networks, effectively extending coverage beyond the point at which a conventional network roll-out would be too expensive. The coverage uses modular, compact GSM Access Points, comprising radio frequency, power and a standard PC with Access Point software.

A new business model for village networks

Our Village Connection solution introduces a novel business model. The village Access Points can be owned and managed by a village entrepreneur or a local franchisee, who interconnects with you, the GSM operator, for external connectivity to other villages and to other networks.

Alternatively you can own and operate the Access Points, or employ local entrepreneurs to operate them for a salary or fee.

Delivering significant economic and welfare improvements

For people in remote areas, mobile communications offer unprecedented access to information, people and services, which boosts economic growth and improves services such as healthcare. Our innovative Village Connection gives consumers the option of having a mobile identity for as little as $2-3 per month.
