Markku Ellilä leads the global Nokia Siemens Mobile Broadband Program. The program combines the Nokia Siemens Networks offering in
Mobile Broadband into an aligned overall offering that covers the products, services and solutions from different business units. The program is also actively pursuing collaboration with participants of the smartphone ecosystem, in order to maximize the positive user experience of smartphone applications in mobile networks, while keeping the total cost of ownership of the networks at an affordable level.
Markku Ellilä has held R&D and general management positions since 1989 in several international companies, covering technologies from paper machinery and fiber optics to telecommunications. Most recently, Dr. Ellilä has held management positions within the Radio Access businesses of Nokia Networks and in Nokia Siemens Networks. His principal areas of interest have been enterprise solutions, radio controllers, radio technology in the Asia-Pacific region, radio strategy and portfolio management.
Markku Ellilä got his M.Sc.(Technology) degree at the Helsinki University of Technology, in Nuclear and Energy Technology. He received his degree of Doctor of Technology at the same university in 1988, based on work on detector technology of the LEP particle accelerator at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. He has participated in the International Executive Program at INSEAD in 1998.
Markku Ellilä is a board member of PYN Fund Management, a private company which manages two mutual funds, registered in Finland, investing the Asia-Pacific region. Markku is a native of Helsinki, Finland, where he currently lives with his family. He speaks Finnish, English, Swedish, German and French.
