Efficient, seamless TD-LTE coverage now a reality
Hong Kong, China – November 18, 2009
China Mobile and Nokia Siemens Networks conduct TD-LTE femtocell demo at GSMA Mobile Asia Congress 2009
Seamless and future proof TD-LTE technology deployments are closer than expected. Building on the success of the world’s first TD-LTE femtocell demo for indoor coverage and the first 3GPP standard compliant TD-LTE call on commercial Flexi Multiradio base stations for macro deployments, Nokia Siemens Networks tied up with China Mobile at GSMA Mobile Asia Congress to assure subscribers a flawless end to end next generation mobile broadband user experience.
“Successful TD-LTE commercial deployments warrant efficient, seamless and uniform coverage” said Tommi Uitto, Head of Wireless Access Product Management at Nokia Siemens Networks. “That’s why it is imperative to think beyond macro deployments to quality of coverage inside homes and offices. While we have proven that we are ready for large scale outdoor TD-LTE deployments as early as 2010, our femtocell solution takes care of maintaining superior coverage indoors.”
As part of the femtocell demo, Nokia Siemens Networks demonstrated a live streaming video downlink application achieving throughputs which exceed the typical xDSL speed currently possible via residential broadband connections.
“To emerge as the TD-LTE partner of choice, we are constantly thinking one step ahead,” added Tommi Uitto. “Ensuring we foresee and devise a solution for every occasion, today we can guarantee a high quality mobile broadband experience anywhere in the TD-LTE network.”
Nokia Siemens Networks successfully demonstrated its progress in commercialization of TD-LTE networks and the readiness of its products for early deployments in October this year. Well ahead of its peers, Nokia Siemens Networks conducted the world’s first TD-LTE data calls in its R&D Centre in Hangzhou leveraging the field proven and award winning, innovative Flexi Multiradio Base Station hardware and fully standard compliant LTE software (March 2009 baseline of 3GPP Rel.8 standard).
A forerunner in LTE, Nokia Siemens Networks has played a pioneering role in China’s home grown technology standard TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE development. Following the industry’s first TD-LTE lab demonstrations conducted with China Mobile in 2008, the company has further strengthened its R&D team in Hangzhou and Beijing, China, to support the commercial roll out of TD-LTE.
Scheduled on November 18-19, 2009 in Hong Kong, the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress provides mobile industry executives worldwide an important opportunity to meet, discuss and debate industry trends and issues.
