Nokia Siemens Networks’ hiT 70xx series receives MEF 9 and MEF 14 certification

Munich, Germany – December 7, 2009

The Multi Service Provisioning Platform has been certified to transport Carrier-Ethernet-grade services

Nokia Siemens Networks today announced that its hiT 70xx Multi Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP) has received Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) certification to provide MEF 9 and MEF 14 Ethernet services. The certification establishes that the hiT 70xx series is capable of transporting Carrier Ethernet services across telecom networks and is interoperable with certified equipment from other vendors.

The MEF 9 and MEF 14 certifications confirm the quality and reliability of point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and multipoint-to-multipoint Ethernet services: EPL (Ethernet Private Line), EVPL (Ethernet Virtual Private Line) and E-LAN (Ethernet LAN Service).

Nokia Siemens Networks received the certification after passing compliance tests conducted by Iomatrix, a third- party company that offers testing and verification of Ethernet services for all types of network products.

“As carrier networks migrate to Ethernet to handle increased demand for IP/Ethernet services, our hiT 70xx platform ensures quality and reliability in transporting operators’ legacy traffic, as well as the new Ethernet traffic,” said Mikko Lavanti head of Nokia Siemens Networks’ next generation metro business line.

The Nokia Siemens Networks hiT 70xx platform enables lower costs for operators through multilayer optimization as it does not depend on routers to provide Carrier Ethernet functionality. It is also easy to operate and integrate into existing networks so that legacy infrastructure can be utilized to provide new services.

Nokia Siemens Networks will display its new, more compact hiT 7065 optical platform for the first time at 3G Middle East Telco World Summit in Dubai on December 7, 2009. High availability, fast service provisioning and customized services such as bandwidth on demand and multipoint-to-multipoint make hiT 7065 a future-proof investment for new packet-oriented applications while supporting existing circuit-based services.

For operators in the Middle East who are migrating to 3G and LTE, the Nokia Siemens Networks hiT 70xx portfolio will provide a smooth and field-proven evolution towards packet-based services to ensure a consistent end-user experience.
