Nokia Siemens Networks joins Global TD-LTE Initiative #GTI #TD-LTE
Beijing, China – June 11, 2012
Demonstrates commitment to TD-LTE; aims to further commercialize technology
Nokia Siemens Networks has become a member of the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) Partner Forum. The GTI is an industry body that advocates and promotes 4G mobile broadband using TD-LTE technology. Having been an active participant in the GTI since its inception, formal membership marks a further commitment by Nokia Siemens Networks to engage with operators and other GTI members in steering the TD-LTE* ecosystem.
Nokia Siemens Networks has seven commercial TD-LTE deals around the world, in Asia, Middle East, South America and Europe, most of which are already live, and is engaged in large-scale field trials with China Mobile and other operators**. Nokia Siemens Networks also offers a complete portfolio with network infrastructure, devices, applications and services for TD-LTE. The company’s work on TD-LTE demonstrates its new focus as a mobile broadband specialist and its leadership in the global LTE market.

Nokia Siemens Networks is actively engaged in multiple GTI technical taskforces that address various issues of TD-LTE commercialization and deployment. This work includes network planning, voice solutions for TD-LTE handsets, co-existence of TDD and FDD, and multi-antenna solutions.

The 4th GTI Workshop will take place on June 18 – 19, 2012, in Hangzhou, China, whereas the GTI Asia Conference will be held on June 20 in Shanghai, China.

* LTE can be run in paired (FDD - Frequency Division Duplexing) or unpaired (TDD - Time Division Duplexing) spectra. TD-LTE is the TDD spectrum variant of LTE and allows operators around the globe to make use of their existing and future unpaired spectrum for 4G mobile broadband.
** Nokia Siemens Networks is at the forefront of TD-LTE development and commercialization, and has seven commercial TD-LTE deals – Bharti Airtel in India, Mobily and STC in Saudi Arabia, and SKY Brazil, to name a few. In China, Nokia Siemens Networks is helping China Mobile conduct a large-scale TD-LTE field trial in two cities – Hangzhou and Xiamen. These tests are delivering unprecedented results in terms of high mobile broadband throughput and low latencies, with top peak throughputs beyond 100Mbps. Nokia Siemens Networks recently announced in Hangzhou its plans to extend its TD-LTE offering to the 1.9 GHz frequency band. With this, China Mobile can evolve its TD-SCDMA network to dual-mode, and support both TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE technologies on the 1.9GHz band via a simple software upgrade. Other global operators can also benefit from this, and use their existing 1.9GHz spectrum to launch TD-LTE faster.
