O2 redesigns German network to improve customer experience
Munich, Germany / Espoo, Finland – December 22, 2009
Nokia Siemens Networks modernizes parts of 2G and 3G networks; saves energy costs
Telefónica O2 Germany has recently expanded and upgraded its 2G and 3G mobile networks. The modernization has improved the quality of voice services and provides broadband access to subscribers across Germany, while saving energy. Nokia Siemens Networks carried out part of the core and radio network modernization in a project completed months ahead of schedule.
“This network modernization was essential to ensure we maintain our competitive edge and growth in the German market,” said Andrea Folgueiras, CTO at Telefónica O2 Germany. “ Nokia Siemens Networks was an ideal partner as it has a strong mix of technology and delivery experience, which has helped ensure that we have a modern, operationally efficient network ready for use, ahead of schedule.”
“O2 is the fastest growing telecommunications operator in Germany, and to maintain this growth it needs to constantly innovate, improving the quality and breadth of its service offerings,” said Thomas Riedel, head of the Telefónica Europe customer team at Nokia Siemens Networks. “That’s what we provide.”
With this solution, O2 Germany has improved its network reliability, and will enjoy energy savings. The network modernization project was carried out by Nokia Siemens Networks and other companies. Under the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks supported O2 in the design and implementation of the network, and will also provide maintenance services to O2 Germany.
