Optical fiber network expands mobile capacity for Slovenian subscribers
Ljubljana, Slovenia – July 6, 2010
Si.mobil selects Nokia Siemens Networks under a five year deal to improve the availability of advanced data services
Subscribers of Si.mobil, one of Slovenia’s leading mobile operators, will now be able to enjoy improved access to hi-speed data services. The operator has recently deployed Nokia Siemens Networks’ optical transport platform to enhance user experience by improving network efficiency across the country. The five-year contract also includes an array of services including installation, commissioning and implementation as well as support and maintenance.
“We wanted to prepare our network to maintain a competitive edge by providing the best services while preparing for the anticipated growth in data traffic,” said Horst Pertl, CTO of Si.mobil. “Nokia Siemens Networks’ scalable optical networks fit our requirements perfectly. Its track record in rapid and cost-effective roll-outs made it easy for us to select its optical transport platform.”
Nokia Siemens Networks’ dense wavelength division multiplexing optical platform (DWDM) offers a high capacity, optical transport backbone that allows Si.mobil to significantly improve network reliability and scalability at lower costs. It also provides a high degree of modularity that will enable Si.mobil to respond timely to increasing customer demands. In addition, the common nature of the platform will save staff training time and costs, simplify the carrier’s network and reduce the spare parts that need to be stocked.
In addition to the DWDM optical solution, Nokia Siemens Networks leading network management system suite already in use by Si.mobil will be used to optimize the network’s operations through centralized control and supervision.
“With the rise in the number of smart devices and bandwidth-hungry applications, it is important to ensure that Si.mobil has the right platform to introduce a wide range of new services to make the most of fresh business opportunities in a flexible manner,” said Dietmar Appeltauer, head of the Central East Europe sub-region at Nokia Siemens Networks.
