Nokia Siemens Networks announced today that it has appointed Samih Elhage as its chief operating officer (COO). Elhage will join Nokia Siemens Networks on March 19, 2012, reporting to the company’s chief executive officer, Rajeev Suri.
2012-03-07 | CN TETRAGEN acquires Nokia Siemens Networks’ Expedience business
CN TETRAGEN, a privately held Spanish technology holding, has acquired Nokia Siemens Networks’ proprietary, fixed-wireless broadband business, Expedience*. Under the terms of the transaction, CN TETRAGEN acquired the complete Expedience portfolio, assets, and the active customer and supplier contracts. The Expedience business is not part of Nokia Siemens Networks’ mobile broadband portfolio based on widely adopted industry standards.
2012-03-06 | Norwegian railway strengthens communications network, passenger safety
Jernbaneverket, the Norwegian national rail administration, is strengthening its GSM-R (GSM railway) core network by using Nokia Siemens Networks’ core network elements with load sharing functionality. Nokia Siemens Networks will upgrade the existing core network elements at the primary site and deploy an additional core network platform. This additional network at a distant location will carry the full traffic in case of any disaster or during maintenance activities at the primary site.
2012-03-06 | Nokia Siemens Networks supplies mobile network for Turkish railway
The Turkish railway administration, TCDD (T.C. Devlet Demiryolları), is working with Nokia Siemens Networks to build a new communications network for the rail line between Inonu and Kosekoy. This 158 kilometer high speed train line is under construction to connect Ankara with Istanbul*. Nokia Siemens Networks is providing TCDD with its GSM-R (railway) radio and core network elements and services. In 2009, the company built a GSM-R network for the existing 275 kilometer Ankara-Inonu line.

Tieto and Nokia Siemens Networks have signed an agreement on the planned outsourcing of part of the maintenance, technical support and R&D for Nokia Siemens Networks’ mobile network Operations Support System (OSS) and Subscriber Data Management (SDM) activities in Finland.

Bharti Airtel, a leading operator in India, has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to build and operate its TD-LTE (time division duplex long term evolution) network in Maharashtra, one of the country’s largest telecom circles. TD-LTE is a 4G mobile broadband technology that delivers instant internet access and can support video streaming and high-definition video conferencing. The launch of commercial TD-LTE services later this year will offer Bharti Airtel subscribers in Maharashtra a much improved experience when using bandwidth-intensive applications, with more consistent network coverage and faster response times (low latency).
