2013-02-28 | Vodafone launches first New Zealand 4G service with Nokia Siemens Networks

Vodafone New Zealand today launched 4G, LTE (long term evolution) ultra-fast mobile broadband services in Auckland. The operator selected Nokia Siemens Networks to deploy its LTE network in the 1800 MHz spectrum band across the country. In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks in partnership with Vodafone New Zealand upgraded Vodafone’s 2G and 3G networks to ensure improved coverage and speed for subscribers. They also jointly completed GSM and LTE refarming so that part of the GSM spectrum can be re-used for LTE. This leads to enhanced speed and coverage, as well as a gain in capacity by up to 50 percent.

Nokia Siemens Networks modernizes and expands GSM and HSPA+ networks, and rolls out LTE on 1800 MHz band

Germany’s E-Plus Group has selected Nokia Siemens Networks as a partner for deploying its 4G, LTE (long term evolution) network. The mobile broadband specialist will also modernize and expand the E-Plus GSM and HSPA+ networks. The agreement between the two companies covers the delivery and integration of the operator’s mobile access network.

Bharti Airtel, a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa, will soon launch voice services for its 4G, TD-LTE (time division duplex long term evolution) customers in Pune, India, through its existing GSM network. The operator has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to deploy its Circuit Switched FallBack (CSFB) voice solution in the operator’s live TD-LTE network in the city. With CSFB, the network can transfer customers to GSM platform to make and receive voice calls and access voicemails while retaining the experience of ultra-fast data services on 4G smartphones.

Following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the two companies in August 2012, they will sign an agreement on February 27, 2013 during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013, to cooperate in the testing of Liquid Applications.
