Nokia Siemens Networks has picked up two top awards for its products and services in China. In December 2008, the fourth annual IT Time Weekly awards gala chose the company as the winner of two categories: ‘Customer Service’ and ‘Most Environmentally-friendly Product’.
With a circulation of more than 200,000, IT Time Weekly is one of China's most prestigious business-to-business management magazines. The magazine's President and Chief Editor, Mr. Cao Jian, commented that "Nokia Siemens Networks' contribution to the industry is highly recognized."
Beijing summer games kept connected
The Customer Service award recognizes Nokia Siemens Networks' work in helping to ensure full network availability for the main sites and surrounding areas of the Beijing summer games. The company was praised for maintaining 100% connectivity at all times, even during the exceptionally busy opening and closing ceremonies.
More than 75% of the communications network covering the games' venues is from China Mobile with Nokia Siemens Networks providing all the switches and most of the other infrastructure.
Eco-friendly base station appreciated
The second award was presented for the Nokia Siemens Networks Flexi base station product range, which was cited as having an 'innovative and eco-friendly design'.
The Flexi base station range has been proven in practice in networks across the globe and is the smallest and most energy efficient wide area base station on the market. Its minimal power use reduces energy consumption, as well as virtually eliminating the need for power-hungry air conditioning. Furthermore, the Flexi base station's high RF performance minimizes the total number of sites needed to achieve the required coverage and capacity.
With Flexi base stations, communications service providers (CSP) can achieve overall energy savings of 70% compared with traditional base stations.
