unite recently caught up with Rajeev Suri, Head of Services at Nokia Siemens Networks for an insight into how global services will help service providers make the most of the next generation communications era.

Recent months have seen Nokia Siemens Networks’ global services division busily remodeling its business processes and portfolio, and refreshing its strategy. The aim is to be the transformation partner for communications service providers as they, in turn, transform their own operations. As we enter the era of next generation networks and communications, the pace of change is creating a real opportunity for global Services to be a next generation partner for its customers.

“We are building up our capabilities to engage with service provider’s at multiple levels to help them meet the multiple challenges they face – in connectivity, in efficiency, in quality assurance, in revenue generation,” explains Suri. “Our existing product lifecycle services, such as Network Implementation and Care, will be complemented by new capabilities in business process consulting.

For example, we can add real value when a service provider moves from a circuit-switched network to all-IP infrastructure, which is not just a reshaping of the network, it is a process transformation requiring new capabilities and expertise.”

Expanding the portfolio

The Managed Services portfolio encompasses a wide range of solutions – from the outsourcing of field operations to hosting, from build-operate-transfer to a range of other business and network support services. These will be extended with the addition of what Suri calls ‘Advanced Managed Services’ where Nokia Siemens Networks will host service providers’ business processes.

“Managed Services is a key area for enabling service providers to focus on their business transformation strategy. We have the expertise to help them solve their pain points, whether providing more capacity, extending network coverage into rural areas, driving down OPEX, upgrading network technology, or anything else,” says Suri.

“We will be expanding our portfolio in other areas too. Our existing Care Services, which cover hardware maintenance and software services, will be expanded with new, proactive care solutions. In Consulting & Systems Integration we will be looking at new ways to help service providers solve challenges in vital areas such as security, as well as help them to adopt innovative mobile applications such as payments, navigation and advertising.”

Remote back office support

An important differentiator for Nokia Siemens Networks is its Global Network Solutions Centers (GNSC) in Portugal and India, which consolidate a range of services solutions into single locations.

“We can see a service provider’s entire network from a GNSC, immediately identify any network issues and resolve them with a minimum of site visits. We can provide better bottom line benefits, because automation transfers workload from field operations to a central diagnostic unit, enabling costs to be cut and economies of scale to be gained. It is this kind of technology that enables us to achieve exceptionally good Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for our customers,” Suri comments.

With such advanced automation technology and its wide services portfolio, Suri’s division is bringing fresh thinking to solve the business needs of service providers. “From business consulting to ongoing network care, we have the right tools plus the scale and global coverage to be the partner of choice for our customers’ transformation,” concludes Suri.
