Liquid Applications
Liquid Applications: Transforming mobile broadband services. Liquid Applications is set to redefine the role of the base station through applications, services and content placed in close proximity to the mobile subscribers and which can use real-time network information to transform their experiences.
At the heart of Liquid Applications is the groundbreaking Nokia Siemens Networks Radio Application Cloud Server (RACS). RACS deploys the latest cloud technology and service creation capabilities, running on standard IT middleware, into the base station. RACS provides processing and storage capabilities, together with the ability to collect real-time network data, for example radio conditions, subscriber location, direction of travel and more. This data can be exploited by applications to offer context-relevant services that transform the mobile broadband experience and directly translate that experience into value.
The business benefits
With Liquid Applications, operators can transform the mobile broadband experience by using their extensive mobile base station networks to offer their customers benefits that no other provider can match. Liquid Applications will enable operators to create substantial revenue from new business models, services and applications. For example, operators could host content from an over-the-top (OTT) provider locally on the base station and provide quality of service guarantees, not only for priority traffic such as video, but also for mobile-based financial transactions such as online banking and shopping. Furthermore, application developers will be able to use real-time network data to create innovative services that connect mobile subscribers with local points-of-interest, businesses and events.
- Enable a never-seen-before interaction between the mobile subscriber, their smart device and their surrounding environment
- Weave together customer’s preferences, online behaviour and real-life contexts into their mobile broadband experience
- Accelerate content, services and applications to create the perception of the ‘Internet in your pocket’
- Tap into additional revenue streams (e.g. enterprise and vertical segments) that are not currently accessible to ‘bit-pipe’ providers
