Our Femto Gateway is a network element acting as a logical entity in the femtocell network while physically it is a single 19-inch rack unit
It acts as an interface, translating between the IP-based Logical unit (Iu) on the side of the Femto Access Point (FAP), and the ATM-based Iu on the side of the circuit-switched network (CN). It also provides security, access control and FAP auto-configuration functions.
The Femto Gateway is therefore seen by the CN as one virtual radio network controller (RNC), hiding a large number of served NodeBs (the FAPs).
