Energy Efficiency
CSPs can benefit from improving the performance of their networks and boost competitiveness, profitability and differentiation by improving energy efficiency.
There are three reasons why energy efficiency matters:
1. Energy efficiency means lower operating cost and therefore lower call costs.
- In mature markets, up to 10 percent of network OPEX is used on energy. In developing markets, it can be from approximately 15 percent up to even 30 percent of networks OPEX for energy.
- Fossil fuel prices remain volatile, adding to the need to reduce energy consumption.
- 86 percent of a mobile operator’s energy consumption occurs in the network infrastructure
2. Networks are expanding into areas where there is no electricity grid available, or the grid quality is not good enough.
- In developing economies almost a quarter of new cell sites will be “off the power grid,” and with the unpredictable cost of fuel as well as the location of these sites, there are significant financial and environmental benefits from looking at renewable power solutions in addition to the energy efficiency of our products or technology equipment.
3. Climate Change: energy efficiency is a global issue - operators are targeting to reduce their CO2 emissions to contribute to the global battle against climate change
