Our new monitoring solution based on OES is fast gaining a reputation for helping customers gain greater efficiencies in their operations.
Operators can now enjoy enhanced operational efficiency because all network monitoring functionalities are consolidated on one desktop. Everything from workflow monitoring to filtering and correlation capabilities become easier to do. Its easy rule-based automation of regular fault management actions helps resolve issues within quick turn around times. And since these tools can be gradually implemented, the customer remains firmly in control of the process.
‘There are many business advantages to having OES provide common components for our OSS products,’ says Sami Pohjonen, Product Line Manager, NetAct System. ‘OES has a good selection of readymade components so you don’t need to start from scratch. We are in the process of renewing our product architecture for many of the products in our portfolio. The result will be a more modular architecture in the key layers, the computing platform providing the hardware and OEM software, and OES providing the application platform and common application functionalities for element and network management. These pre-integrated application sets are out-of-the box solutions and have roles of their own. With the help of OES we will have better basis for interoperability and telecom and OSS-specific common elements in a clearly separated layer’
‘One of the key things benefitting us is that the OES application platform provides the necessary common services for all the applications sitting on top of it. First of all, we have a common IT platform consisting of hardware and OEM software and our OSS products. On top of that, we have the OES application platform, which provides services for all applications.’ says Sami.
At the heart of this approach is a commitment to speeding up the development and the time-to-market of customer products in every way possible.
‘With this renewed modular architecture, and by using these same components as a platform for all our OSS products, we can provide our customers with a harmonised portfolio with easier maintenance, efficient operations and capabilities for shorter time-to-market.’
‘We are using the exact same common components for our portfolio, multiple products which can benefit our customer in the form of easier maintenance and operations, the same kind of look and feel and presentation of data, and so on.
‘A major benefit of the OES is that you immediately implement solutions that the customer wants and quickly concentrate on the application functionalities, which means in practice that you can be more competitive from the start.’
The beauty of OES is the fact that it eliminates the necessity to develop separately for each product. ‘Typically, we would have to optimize all the development for individual products creating ‘monolife’ products. But by having a clear layering of architecture, with our OES we can ensure modularity of all of our products.’
In addition to the common platform services that OES provides, it also offers application functionalities for fault management and performance management, which are key requirements for producing competitive network management systems.
‘The OES application platform and OES fault management applications are used in new NetAct Monitor, which can be delivered for our existing customers as an optional extra. They then get a new fault management tool with better usability, providing better efficiency of their fault management processes.’
There has been plenty of positive feedback from the first customers to test this product. ‘All the customers we have talked to love it. Recently we were at OSS/BSS Forum in Dubai and NetAct Monitor raised a lot of interest. Many of our customers want to have these new tools as quickly as possible.’
